Your Kryptonites: What’s Really Holding You Back?
Feb 09, 2026
Most people spend their lives trying to unlock their strengths.
And that’s important.
But there’s another side to growth that often gets ignored.
Understanding what’s holding you back.
Superman wasn’t weakened because he lacked strength.
He was weakened because of Kryptonite.
A hidden vulnerability that could neutralise even his greatest powers.
The same is true for all of us.
Over the years, I’ve worked with graduates, professionals, founders, executives, and future leaders who all had enormous potential.
They were intelligent.
Capable.
Driven.
Talented.
Yet something kept getting in the way.
Not a lack of ability.
A hidden blocker.
Fear of failure.
Fear of judgement.
Imposter syndrome.
Perfectionism.
The need for approval.
Self-doubt.
Comparison.
Overthinking.
Different names.
Same outcome.
Potential left unrealised.
The challenge is that most people spend years focusing on what they need to do more of.
Far fewer spend time understanding what they need to overcome.
Because personal growth isn’t only about discovering your superpowers.
It’s about identifying your Kryptonites.
The habits, beliefs, behaviours, and thought patterns that repeatedly pull you away from the person you’re capable of becoming.
The good news?
Once you can see them, you can start managing them.
You stop being controlled by them.
You start making conscious choices instead of unconscious reactions.
And that’s often where real transformation begins.
In this week’s edition of The Brand Build, I explore the concept of Personal Kryptonites, why self-awareness is one of the most powerful skills you can develop, and how identifying what’s holding you back may be the first step toward unlocking what’s possible.
