My Prediction for 2027: Branding Is Becoming Everyone’s Business
I have a prediction for 2027.
We’re going to start dropping the word “personal” from personal branding.
Not because personal brands are becoming less important.
Quite the opposite.
Because branding is becoming everyone’s business.
And I think the shift has already started.
Creators showed us what was possible
For years, branding was something we associated primarily with companies.
Businesses had brands.
Products had brands.
Celebrities had brands.
The rest of us had careers.
Then the creator economy changed the conversation.
Individuals began building audiences, developing reputations and creating commercial value around their identities.
Creators became businesses.
Their names became assets.
Their expertise became products.
Their audiences became communities.
And their personal brands became intellectual property.
But I think the next chapter is going to be much bigger.
Branding is moving inside organisations
We’re increasingly seeing something similar happen within companies.
Founders have always understood the value of their personal reputation.
But now CEOs, executives, emerging leaders and employees are recognising that their professional identity matters too.
Not necessarily because they want to become influencers.
Or start a business.
Or build a large LinkedIn following.
But because their reputation influences how they’re perceived, trusted, remembered and considered for opportunities.
Their expertise has value.
Their perspective has value.
Their story has value.
And the way they communicate those things increasingly matters.
You don’t need to become an entrepreneur to benefit from building a strong brand.
You can build an extraordinary career inside an organisation.
And your personal brand can become one of the most valuable assets you develop along the way.
But branding has to start somewhere deeper
This is where I think the next evolution becomes particularly interesting.
As more people begin thinking about their brands, we’ll need to move beyond the assumption that personal branding simply means creating content.
Because branding isn’t just about visibility.
It’s about identity.
What you stand for.
What makes you distinctive.
How people experience you.
What they associate with your name.
And ultimately, what you become known for.
That’s why I believe understanding your identity should come before deciding how to communicate it.
In my latest LinkedIn newsletter, I explore why 2027 could mark an important shift in how we think about branding, the role creators have played in accelerating it, and why the next generation of brand builders may be working inside some of the world’s biggest organisations.
